Thodoris Zacharis and Marios Sergidis are the founders of Cosset, an interior design company with a professional reach and reputation that extends well beyond Greece, and whose genesis can be traced back to the creative spark of Mykonos.

You founded the Cosset stores in Mykonos. Why did you choose this specific island over the rest of Greece to start your business?
There were two reasons behind our decision to inaugurate the Cosset era on our favourite island. First of all, there’s the magnificent landscape, framed by the deep blue waters of the Aegean, and that unique contrast is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for us. Furthermore, Mykonos is an island that attracts the local and international jet set, royals and countless celebrities. So, it was the ideal place to establish our professional collaborations, to meet clients from all over the world and to share our decorative and architectural creativity with these lovely people.

We avoid overburdening a space with ostentation – a stereotype we are happy to see disappearing.

What is your view on the development of interior decoration on the island of winds? Which decorative cliches did you choose to resist?
Over the last twenty years, there have been radical changes in the way people here on Mykonos express themselves through the decoration of their personal space. We avoid overburdening a space with ostentation – a stereotype we are happy to see disappearing. We also consider context. When we design a cottage, for example, we focus as much on the surroundings as on the building itself, in order to achieve a harmonious combination.
Which of the island’s features have had the greatest influence on your creativity?
The minimalist character of Mykonos and its tourist diversity in the summer, which creates a dynamic and sophisticated mix of inspiration.

Ideal location on the island in three words? The Delos island complex.

What type of architecture do you consider to be incompatible with Myconian style?
Architectural and decorative excess is unnecessary as it doesn’t enhance the island’s beauty; it doesn’t blend with the surroundings; nor does it contribute anything special, tasteful or modern.
If you had to describe the ideal location on the island in three words, what would they be?
The Delos island complex.
You live in Mykonos in the summer. Do you have a favourite place for your business meetings?
There are no ‘favourite’ places on this island; just places that are more compatible with your personality traits than others. We choose our own premises for our business meetings because they are serene and represent our aesthetics.
